Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do with your data. Last updated 10 June 2026.

Who we are

Venn is a video-first dating service operated by Venn Dating App ("Venn", "we", "us"). Contact: support@venndatingapp.com.

Data we collect

Account & profile

  • Name, age, gender, location (country / city), bio
  • Profile photos and profile video
  • Email address (for sign-in and account recovery)
  • Apple ID or Google account identifier when you use social sign-in

Device & usage

  • Device type, OS version, app version, time zone, language
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging token (push notifications)
  • Crash logs and diagnostic information (via Firebase Crashlytics)
  • App analytics events (screen views, kiss sent, match created — never the content of your conversations)

Presence & availability

  • Online status — whether you're currently connected to Venn; shown to other users as an “Online now” indicator
  • Declared availability window — the “usually online” hours you optionally set; shown on your profile in your local time; removable at any time
  • Learned activity pattern — aggregated counts of which hours of the week you tend to be online, in your time zone. We do not keep raw session logs. Used only to order the feed (people online or likely online soon appear first); never shown to anyone. You can delete it at any time.
  • Notification timestamps — when we last told a match of yours that you came online, kept per match pair so we never send more than one such notification every six hours

Permissions you grant on the device

  • Camera — to record your profile video and run video calls
  • Microphone — for video calls
  • Photo library — to upload profile photos
  • Location — to match you with people in your country
  • Calendar — only when you choose to add a prime-time reminder to your calendar
  • Notifications — for matches, messages, prime-time reminders, and when a match comes online

How we use your data

  • To run the feed (we only show you people in the same country; people who are online or usually online soon appear first)
  • To show other users whether you're online and, if you set it, when you're usually online
  • To notify you when a mutual match comes online (at most one notification per match every six hours)
  • To deliver video calls and chat between matched users
  • To process subscriptions and in-app purchases through RevenueCat (Apple / Google bills you, we never see your card)
  • To send push notifications you have opted into
  • To detect abuse and enforce our community policy
  • To verify that your profile video shows a real person (AI review using Google Gemini)

Who processes your data on our behalf

  • Firebase (Google LLC) — authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics, Analytics
  • Cloudinary — stores and delivers your profile photos and video
  • Agora — runs the real-time video call infrastructure
  • RevenueCat — subscription state syncing between Apple, Google, and our app
  • Google Gemini — AI review of profile videos (the video is sent to Gemini for verification only, and is not used to train any model)

We do not use Mixpanel, AppsFlyer, OneSignal, Segment, or any third-party ad network. We do not sell your data.

Where your data lives

Firebase project venn-prod-app runs in Google's us-central1region. Data is replicated across Google data centers under their standard contractual clauses. We transfer data to the US under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep your data

  • Active accounts: as long as you use Venn
  • Deleted accounts: profile and conversations are wiped within 30 days of deletion
  • Crash logs: 90 days
  • Analytics events: 14 months (Firebase default)
  • Presence activity pattern: kept while your account exists; deleted with your account, or earlier on request
  • Came-online notification timestamps: overwritten each time a notification is sent; deleted on request
  • Payment records: 7 years (legal obligation)

Your rights

Under GDPR (EU/UK), LGPD (Brazil), and equivalent laws elsewhere, you can:

  • Access a copy of your data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your data (see the Delete account page)
  • Delete your presence history without deleting your account
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent for processing
  • Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority (CNPD in Portugal, ICO in the UK, ANPD in Brazil)

Children

Venn is 18+. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the data we collect changes. The "last updated" date at the top tells you when. Material changes trigger an in-app re-acceptance prompt.
